These advertisements were selected for a few reasons.

• They (Nivea, Zappos, and Newport) sparked conversation and dialogue about marketing strategies to blacks and women.
• Conversations about natural hair were happening in the mainstream media, and people were voicing their opinions on whether or not touching/searching someone’s hair was appropriate.
